No Pasarán! International Debate in Bologna Against the Right and for a New Labour Solidarity

As part of Manifesta 2026, the CGIL Bologna Festival taking place from 29 June to 3 July, the International Network of Antifascist Trade Unions is organizing the public event “No Pasarán! Stop the Right Everywhere: in Workplaces, in the Streets and at the Ballot Box. For a New International of Labour”, scheduled for Wednesday, 1 July at 5:00 p.m. in the Scorsese Hall of the Cineteca di Bologna, located in the redeveloped former Tobacco Factory complex.

The event will provide an opportunity for international discussion on the challenges posed by the rise of populist and authoritarian forces and on the role of the trade union movement in strengthening democracy, rights, and participation. At the heart of the debate is the need to build a collective response that goes beyond the electoral arena and takes root in workplaces, communities, and local territories, while fostering a renewed international solidarity among workers.

The discussion will be introduced and moderated by Salvatore Marra, Director of CGIL’s European and International Policies Department. Speakers will include David Broder, Europe Editor at Jacobin Magazine and historian of contemporary Italy; Emily Clancy, Deputy Mayor of Bologna; Michael Jennewein, Senior Researcher for Democracy and Economy, at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation’s Regional Office; Gyula Pallagi, Vice President of the Hungarian Trade Union Confederation (MASZSZ); Carlos Gil, General Secretary of IG Metall Ingolstadt; and Mikyung Ryu, International Officer of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU).

The event will conclude with remarks by Michele Bulgarelli, General Secretary of CGIL Bologna
